First of all, what is a favicon? A favicon is that little image in your address bar and favorites folder that goes with the website. Its usually a small version of the logo.
So, why would I want to create one? Well thats, easy. It adds a professional touch to your site and also makes your site stand out in your surfers favorites list.
So how do I create a favicon? Well thats pretty easy too!!
1. Go to http://www.iconcool.com/download.htm
2. Download IconEditor. Don't worry it has a 30 day free trial. If you like it or want to use for more sites you can purchase it for $19.95
3. Install IconEditor and open it up.
It should look some thing like this:
4. Make sure that the icon size is set to 16x16. Thats the size of the favicons. We also recommend useing 256 colors to make sure your icon looks the same on everybodys computer.
5. Choose any of the tools on the left. I prefer the pencil.
6. Choose a color at the bottom of the screen
7. Now just start creating your favicon.
8. After creating your favicon just upload it to your server.
9. If you put it at the root of your site it will show up for all pages in your site.
eg. www.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico
10. Its easy and fun and gives your site that extra edge.
